Personal Talent Skills Inventory
The Personal Talent Skills Inventory (PTSI) is a robust assessment tool that measures one’s level of development in 67 talents and skills. Every person has their own unique way of valuing the world around them and themselves within that world. These fundamental patterns of thought determine the very skills and talents we bring to any situation or role.
We each skew reality differently in our brains and this determines the things we find easy and those we find more challenging. By understanding that we can each look at the same situation or experience and have a completely different perspective is valuable in itself. The ability to understand this and how best to apply it in the work environment makes for a powerful management tool.
The PTSI is based on the formal science of Axiology, developed by Dr Robert S. Hartman. Building on the work of many of his predecessors, Dr. Hartman’s research showed that there are three ways in which we each perceive any concept. We can see the structure of a thing, the application of a thing and the individuality of a thing. By examining a person’s clarity and focus in each of these thought processes we can accurately predict their natural talents and skills.
The PTSI achieves its incredible accuracy by assessing a person’s clarity and focus in three separate dimensions of thought:
Systemic: Definitions, structure and order
Extrinsic: Comparisons, practicality and usefulness
Intrinsic: Feelings, emotions and individuality
No one uses each of the three dimensions equally; however all are used in the process of making a decision. These differing perceptions define how we think and make conclusions. Depending on the ability and focus we have in each of the three dimensions of value, each of us has natural tendencies or skills that develop as a result – similar to a person with great sense of smell or razor sharp vision.
The PTSI is backed by more than 40 years of research and Hartman was nominated for the Nobel Prize for his work. The assessment we use today has been validated in over 28 individual validation studies, conducted over 20 years by more than 19 separate examiners. The results speak for themselves!
